Wallace Long Hambrick, 74, of Lawrenceville, GA, formerly of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, GA following a long battle with cancer. Wallace was a loving father, grandfather, and husband. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Ivey Funeral Home. The graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Oak City Cemetery with Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Buford Presbyterian Church in Sugar Hill, GA with Dr. Corey Ingold and Rev. Rix Threadgill officiating. Wallace was born October 16, 1936 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of James Everett Hambrick and Rebecca Long Hambrick. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and Southern Polytechnical Institute, and attended Auburn University. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, Surveyors and Mapping Society of Georgia, and was an active member of the Buford Presbyterian Church in Sugar Hill, GA. Wallace practiced as a Civil Engineer and Registered Land Surveyor. He had a variety of hobbies and skills including flying small planes, gymnastics in college, construction, motorcycle riding, and woodworking. He enjoyed working outside, and his time at their mountain retreat in Franklin, NC. Survivors include his wife, Susan Hambrick of Lawrenceville, GA; his sons, Wallace Hambrick, Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA and Douglas Hambrick and partner, Victor De Jesus, of Decatur, GA; his daughters, Kimberly Williams of Canton, GA and Libby Williams Brown and her husband, Tim, of Canton, GA; his granddaughters, Jessica Hambrick of Lawrenceville, GA and Ella Brown of Canton, GA; his sister, Jane Hambrick Douglas and her husband, Bob Douglas, Jr., of Marietta, GA; his brother, Wayne Hambrick and his wife, Wanda, of Canton, GA; his nephews, Bob Douglas, III of Tallahassee, FL and Jim Douglas of Waleska, GA; his great-niece, Mandy Douglas Eaton and her husband, Steve, of Tallahassee, FL; and his great-nephews, Jim Douglas, Jr., Will Douglas, and David Douglas, all of Waleska, GA. Wallace was preceded in death by his son, John Michael Hambrick and a great-nephew, Rob Douglas.
