Wayne Sutherland Bankston, 83, of Albany, GA, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Bobby Bankston, Warren Baker, Todd Hornsby, Swade Shook, Lewis Godby, and Marlon James serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, prior to the service, at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Memorial donations may be made to the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, 3000 Highway 42 North, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Mrs. Bankston was born March 9, 1929 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Warren Fulton "Red" Sutherland and Carmie Lucille Stapleton Sutherland. She was a graduate of Americus High School and was a retired secretary for the Dougherty County Health Department. Mrs. Bankston attended Spring Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Robert V. Bankston, Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Donalsonville, GA; her daughters, Sheryl B. Baker and her husband, Nick, of Leesburg, GA and Terri Lynn B. Salemi and her husband, Rick, of Clarkesville, GA; her two brothers; her three sisters; her grandchildren, Prissy Bankston Willis, Bobby Bankston, Warren Baker, April Herrington, Swade Shook, Shann Shook, Deana Hornsby, and Dawn Ready; her seventeen great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vernon Bankston; and her grandson, Joe.
