Funeral services for Wayne L. Sirmons, 69, will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, 2019 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.Mr. Sirmons was born in Cordele to the late Judge Morgan Sirmons and Dorris Evelyn Ellis Sirmons and died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 at his residence. Wayne was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He began his 40 years of banking in 1979 as a Lender at C&S National Bank in Albany, Ga. He transferred to Bainbridge in 1986 as Branch Coordinator and Commercial/Consumer Lender where he stayed with the bank through bank mergers and acquisitions. Wayne was hired as Sr. Vice President/Commercial Lender (second employee hired) by First National Bank of Decatur County in 2004 and actually worked out of the Dowdy and Whittaker offices until our modular building was set up and ready for business. He later became President of the bank until he retired in December of 2016. At this point he made remodeling his family home place in Cordele his career but still managed to find time to come down and visit us a few times a year. Wayne was active in his community and was Past President, Director, and Chairman of various committees with Bainbridge Kiwanis Club, and was involved with American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Decatur County Young Farmers Association and Farm Service Agency lender panel member. Wayne loved his Georgia Bulldogs and listening to his music, from Elvis to The Allman Brothers Band. He also loved watching sports and he loved to travel the United States and abroad. He is survived by his brother, Kenny Sirmons of Winterville, Ga., and his nieces, Tara Carr of LaGrange, Ga. and Shea Sirmons of Atlanta. Online condolences may be left at www.hughesandwright.com .
